NASA Seeks Volunteers to Track Artemis II Mission
Help Track Humanity’s Next Journey Around the Moon
As NASA prepares for Artemis II—the first crewed mission of the Artemis program that will send four astronauts on a flyby around the Moon—the agency is inviting amateur radio enthusiasts, researchers, universities, and organizations to assist in tracking the mission.
What Is NASA Looking For?
The Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) program at NASA is seeking volunteers to:
-
Passively receive and measure radio signals from the uncrewed Orion spacecraft.
-
Collect data such as Doppler shift and other radio frequency characteristics.
-
Contribute to a complementary data set alongside NASA’s own Deep Space and Near Space networks.
These efforts will help NASA evaluate new commercial and academic capabilities for future deep space communications and tracking solutions.
A Proven Concept
This call for participation follows a successful initiative during Artemis I (2022), where:
-
10 volunteers, including agencies, universities, companies, and private citizens, tracked the uncrewed Orion spacecraft.
-
Their results confirmed the feasibility of non-traditional tracking methods.
NASA now aims to expand this collaboration model for Artemis II, scheduled no earlier than April 2026.
How to Participate
📅 Deadline: October 27, 2025 — 5:00 p.m. EDT
📩 Interested parties must respond to the Request for Information (RFI) issued by NASA SCaN.
