Katy Perry to Fly Aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard

Renowned singer Katy Perry is set to participate in Blue Origin’s NS-31 mission. This suborbital flight, scheduled for spring 2025, will be the first to carry an all-female crew, marking a symbolic milestone for women’s role in space exploration and a strategic publicity move for Jeff Bezos’ company. The flight will last approximately 11 minutes, taking the crew beyond the Kármán line at 100 kilometers altitude, allowing them to experience a few moments of weightlessness before a controlled return to Earth

Alongside Katy Perry, five other remarkable women will take part in the journey:

  • Lauren Sánchez: The partner of Jeff Bezos, who assembled this crew, is an Emmy Award-winning journalist, New York Times bestselling author, pilot, Vice Chair of the Bezos Earth Fund, and mother of three. In 2016, she founded Black Ops Aviation, the first female-owned aerial film and production company. In 2024, she published her first children’s book, The Fly Who Flew to Space, which became a New York Times bestseller. Her expertise in aviation earned her induction into the Elling Halvorson Vertical Flight Hall of Fame in 2024.
  • Gayle King: An award-winning journalist, co-host of CBS Mornings, editor-at-large at Oprah Daily, and host of Gayle King in the House on SiriusXM radio.
  • Aisha Bowe: A former NASA scientist, entrepreneur, and global STEM advocate. She is the CEO of STEMBoard, a two-time Inc. 5000-listed engineering company, and the founder of LINGO, an edtech company aiming to equip one million students with essential tech skills.
  • Amanda Nguyen: A bioastronautics research scientist. A Harvard graduate, she has conducted research at Harvard Center for Astrophysics, MIT, NASA, and the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences. Amanda worked on NASA’s last space shuttle mission (STS-135) and the Kepler exoplanet mission. She is also a human rights activist, nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and named TIME’s Woman of the Year. She is set to become the first Vietnamese and Southeast Asian astronaut.
  • Kerianne Flynn: After a successful career in fashion and human resources, Kerianne now dedicates her time to community engagement, serving on boards of directors and nonprofit organizations, including The Allen-Stevenson School, The High Line, and Hudson River Park. Passionate about storytelling’s impact, she has produced thought-provoking films, including This Changes Everything (2018), exploring women’s history in Hollywood, and LILLY (2024), a tribute to equal-pay advocate Lilly Ledbetter.

This historic flight follows the NS-30 mission, which took place on February 25, 2025. That flight marked the 10th crewed mission of the New Shepard program, further solidifying the system’s reliability and safety after a series of successful test flights.

With the NS-30 mission’s success, Blue Origin resumed its crewed flight program, paving the way for more ambitious missions, including NS-31, which carries significant symbolic importance as the first all-female crew in Blue Origin’s history.
